...Most important, in our complex federal system, where the policies of the national government depend on cooperation by state and local authorities, these local movements have the potential to block initiatives by the incoming Trump regime....
... Now the protests will have to aim not at winning, but at halting or foiling initiatives that threaten harmeither by redistributing wealth to the very top (the Trump tax and energy plans), or by eliminating existing political rights (the cancellation of DACA, the Obama executive order that protected undocumented-immigrant children, known as Dreamers), or by jeopardizing established protections and benefits (the looming prospect of privatizing Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, or the threat to turn funding for public education into a system of vouchers for charter schools). So how do resistance movements winif they winin the face of an unrelentingly hostile regime? The answer, I think, is that by blocking or sabotaging the policy initiatives of the regime, resistance movements can create or deepen elite and electoral cleavages.

Throw sand in the gears of their Medicaid, EBT, disability checks, welfare, and tax refunds and see how quickly they scream bloody murder.
I don’t care. No plans to go there.
Please do! Run around screaming hair on fire over today’s new insult to your list of imaginary rights! BEST ELECTION EVER!
In another week or so everybody is going to be sick of the wailing and gnashing of teeth no one will care. Just so much white noise.
“The peaceful transfer of power is over in America and naked Marxists killed it.”
That’s right - expect a “what’s good for the goose is good for the gander” retaliation if and when a Democrat assumes the Presidency.
No more honeymoon. No more Mr. Nice Opposition.
Well, at 84 ole Frances isn’t likely to be “throwing sand in anyone’s gears” for too much longer. And her commie hubbie, Cloward, is long-gone to Hell.
Whatever happened to “Elections have consequences”?
“In another week or so everybody is going to be sick of the wailing and gnashing of teeth no one will care. Just so much white noise.”
Don’t forget the weeping. Unfortunately my talents do not include the creation of jpg, gifs, etc. But maybe some enterprising FReeper can create one with Shmuckee weeping, that man/woman (I couldn’t tell which) that Gutfield showed last week caterwauling on the sidewalk; wailing, and take your pick for the gnashing of teeth as there seems to be an endless number of selections.
I know.... maybe a contest to see who gets the gnashing of teeth award. That would be fun.
What if the Useful Idiots threw a CRISIS party... and nobody came...
err, no wait, how’d that go again?
When big government libs want to shut down government - it’s called winning.

That was my first thought... I’d love to see a FedGov full or partial sickout/strike .. That would give Trump more power to make positive change.
“The answer, I think, is that by blocking or sabotaging the policy initiatives of the regime, resistance movements can create or deepen elite and electoral cleavages.”
These idiots don’t realize they are on the wrong side of that cleavage, and if they deepen it, they are only going to lose more elections :)
They really approach every problem at the level of a kindergartner, wanting to do good but never considering difficulties or consequences that might complicate things.
In childhood, everyone thinks that way, but their parents and teachers naturally shepherd them into an adult way of looking at and solving problems. With liberals, they never get that help, and so they remain developmentally disabled into adulthood, trying to solve problems as a toddler might.
VERY, VERY important article. Thanks for posting. She’s the Queen of Clubs in the 1st deck of DOMESTIC ENEMIES playing cards. Very high value. Fox hunters ALERT!
The problem with “sand in the gears” is that you
destroy the machine. These people think the parts
just make themselves.
Hint: It won’t turn out the way you think Frances.
