President Trump reportedly is revamping his National Security Council to include his senior advisor, Stephen Bannon.

The Washington Post said Saturday that Bannon will have a seat on the Council’s principals committee.

It’s other members are the most senior national security officials, including the secretaries of state and defense. Bannon is former chairman of the conservative Web site Breitbart.

While I realize ‘first impression’ does count, at this stage of the game, the more he can whizz off the ‘others’, the better as it keeps them guessing and busy.

Sort of like your house is burning and you get mad because the cat took a whizz on your carpet.

Seems that people who work (worked) for a living and weren’t ‘smart enough’ to be a Pol or a ‘Public Servant (love that term)’ are perfectly happy with what President Trump is doing. Especially when the enemedia keeps dissing President Trump for getting something accomplished.

Political influences can have the effect of discouraging healthy dissent, contrary information, and opposing views. You don’t want intelligence analysts and policy makers repressing information because of fear of going against the party line. I hope you will agree that, in order to make the best decisions, its imperative to hear all the evidence and arguments. Only then can you develop the right strategy.

Not saying this is necessarily going to happen with Bannon but the perception in the IC could quickly develop into one that causes people to hold back if they perceive (rightly or wrongly) that their views will be unwelcomed. That’s my main concern.

With respect to the left making politics personal and deadly, I totally agree with you on that. We do need to fight back forcefully, but we also need to protect the homeland and we need the best minds thinking outside the box to do it.

“Public servant” for over 32 years here.
= = = = = = = = = = = = =
I didn’t broad brush the term.
I realize there are scores of Public Servants who do not stand up in front of a crowd in their thousand dollars suits/dresses etc and declare themselves a ‘Public Servant’.

When I went into the work force you had a choice of working for the government with less pay at first but after doing 5 or 10 years, the job stability alone put one ahead as far as buying houses, new cars etc etc etc.

I chose the private sector and while I made more at the outset and had a few perks (vehicle etc) I didn’t have health care, paid vacation etc etc.

And at age 60 when stopping off at the local VFW after work, my 60 year old ‘retired’ police and fire buddies were already there enjoying their retirement.

But yes, they earned it and it did turn out their decision was the smart one.

Like ‘we’ used to say...
“It is a rough job but someone has to do it”.

Sorry if I ‘offended’ you.... <: <: <:

Bannon doesn’t strike me as an ideolog.

Had Obama done something like this I think many of us would have expressed concern about ideological issues influencing a sober analysis of foreign threats and developing practical strategies for countering them.

Duh.

This isn't Obama. This is Trump. Of course ideology should color our analysis of foreign threats. When Obama was president, radical Islamic fundamentalists were our friends and Christian Russia was the enemy. Now we have a different ideology and, hopefully, a different threat assessment.

Trump himself has said that we might be friendly with some countries, but we might not. He doesn’t seem to be locked into any ideological views so he might disagree with you that “ideology should color our analysis of foreign threats”.

Trump has a pragmatic, realistic, practical, and adaptive way of looking at things. I hope that our foreign policy apparatus looks at things with the same open mind.

The Obama White House was filled with totally unqualified people<<

Starting with bammy himself!!....The fact he was 1/2 black made it impossible for the PC news media to question anything he did....Eventually...history will reflect that dirty little secret...The 8 year rein of the Emperor with no clothes

David Axelrod. A sad precedent but true.
