There are mistakes and then there are mistakes.

The consequences of what Merkel did was eminently foreseeable, it was a criminal action, done without regard to the effect it would have on German society and across europe.

Sorry, doesn’t cut it i’m afraid, the effects are much, much too big to get away with that.

People have been killed, women and children raped, because of the arrogance of one woman.

Great way of putting it... The action was criminally negligent, easily foreseeable preventable consequences to actions made. After alarm was pointed out they doubled down on that... right then you have eliminated any grace you could have earned through oversight. You need to not only be removed from office but punished criminally. PERIOD
