California's secretary of state has given the green light for a group to take the first step in the political process for the state to secede from the United States.

Agreed, but the time for doing that was decades ago and not when literally half the nation had its entire economy hardwired to the practice. And that was our fault for letting it GET that far, not the South’s. Had we drawn a line in the sand in the time of the 13 colonies the pro-slave states would have quickly cried uncle. By the time Sumter was shelled Lincoln had only two awful choices as the standing President: fight or surrender.
Its reminiscent of Ron Paul’s idea of issuing letters of marque to take out ISIS: great thing to do but wholly inadequate for the scale of the problem at hand.
Claro que si
Don’t underestimate the strength of this movement. The Hispanic population’s loyalty to the United States, even among native-born Hispanics, shrinks as its proportion of the population of California grows.
Many of the white liberal elites in L.A. and the Bay Area imagine that they would be running a country according to their own cultural and political desires. This delusion would come up hard and heavy against the reality of the Hispanics wanting to run it like the dumps they came from.
California could vote for secession, but the aftermath wouldn’t be pleasant.
“...You are welcome in the great state of Jefferson...”
Wonderful news. Thank you for the invitation, and don’t forget about your offer because I may take you up on that if it all goes sideways.
Best regards, FRiend.
Placer county and above through the northeast of California is pretty solid conservative. So is Fresno and surrounding areas, and places along the delta too. All the live are in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and surrounding areas. At least I think that is still pretty accurate.
Before a war, an invasion, a national break-up or a societal breakdown happens it's easy to act like it's no big deal, but California secession would affect our lives in ways we can't even imagine now -- and another civil war would make an even bigger change in how we live.
A lot of bravado and exaggeration comes before catastrophes, and it looks very bad to those how come afterwards. Splitting up the country or killing each other in the streets wouldn't make life better for anybody. I wouldn't put it past the Chinese, the Russians or some terrorist group to encourage talk of secession and civil war in order to weaken the US.
