A 20% tax on imports from Mexico will not make Mexico pay for the wall. It will make Americans pay for it.

If the products are more expensive, then most won’t buy Mexican products. Problem solved!

Exactly right. We’ll see if Trump is just re-negotiating NAFTA here and eventually settles on a position that helps both countries, but in the meantime, he’s talking more and more like he’s all for a trade war.

And if the stock market starts worrying about an international trade war, watch out below.

Well. When purchasing products from Mexico hits us where it
hurts; then MAYBE, just maybe we’ll buy MADE IN THE U.S.A.
items INSTEAD of cheap imports from ANYWHERE.

Bingo. But as long as people feel that the Mexicans are paying for it, they'll gladly (and stupidly) hand over the money.

True, but only if Americans buy products from Mexico.

The tariff will increase the cost which means people will buy less.

This will hurt the Mexican economy.

Mexico will need to negotiate. At some point they will need to call their citizens home, and they will pay one way or another for a stronger border.

i think who pays for the wall is irrelevant. I think the wall itself is irrelevant.
What is important is the political will to expel those who are here illegally and prevent those who would be here illegally from coming here.
The savings in welfare, education, healthcare, and other costs associated with these people would quickly outweigh the cost of 10 walls.
I’m all for catch and release. Catch here - release there.
