After months of talk during the presidential campaign and in the lead up to his inauguration, Donald Trump appears set to take action on his promises to build a wall on the US-Mexico border and to expel immigrants in the US illegally.
Sources told Reuters that Trump would begin issuing orders on Wednesday, likely directing the construction of the border wall and other actions to track down and deport undocumented immigrants.
As a part of the immigration and border measures, Trump is expected to propose the hiring of 5,000 more US border agents and call for local law enforcement agencies to work with federal immigration authorities.
The latter step could mean raids on workplaces and homes and dividing families already in the US.
The reports of imminent action on Trump's border and immigration plans have spurred backlash in Mexico not only at Trump and not only for his continued insistence that Mexico will pay for the wall.
Mexico's economy minister and newly appointed foreign minister are slated to meet with members of Trump's team including advisers Steve Bannon and Jared Kushner and National Security Adviser Michael Flynn in Washington on Wednesday and Thursday, and Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto is to visit the US on January 31 to meet with Trump.
Accordingly, Mexicans have called on their government to cancel these meetings and send a message to the Trump administration that it will not kowtow to what is seen as bullying.
Peña Nieto and Luis Videgaray the foreign minister who, as finance minister, arranged Trump's controversial meeting with the Mexican president in late August have also been singled out for derision and exhortations.

If we had stayed there, all of Mexico would be as prosperous as Texas.
But it's a time-honored tradition.
It is that entitlement mentality that has me so bitter towards them.
“It’s still happening there today. Funny how nobody points these things out about Meh-Hee-Co.”
Yeah, and we regard the Middle East is a craphole, when we have a big one right here on our southern border that’s been like a big boil on our A$$ forever. Mexico isn’t our friend, and it never has been.
“Its not just the Mexicans - the MSM and the Dem party in general seem to feel the same way.”
Face it, it’s just cover for their continuing efforts to subvert this Republic and turn it into just another Marxist State. All the RATs want the illegals for is to use them to vote them (the RATs) into permanent power here.

You & I both know it; but in the spirit of “water-boarding for truth”, I’d love to soak a few rats and get them to admit it too.

Perfect! If the RATs really told the truth about their goals and intentions, they would cease to be a national party in short order. They exist because we have enough low-class morons and outright Marxists amongst us to keep their party viable, and we have our union-run “public education system” to thank for much of it.

Agreed. I’m REALLY hope that DeVos is successful. If we can break the back of the teachers unions, and start to reverse the decades-long trend of leftist indoctrination in our schools, our republic just might stand a chance...
I said this 11 years ago when we had large immigration protests here in Phoenix. Observing the protest from my place of work near the capital, I said to a liberal co-worker, “These protests belong in their own country, not here.” Surprisingly, even she agreed.
meh... hope = hopeful
It's amazing that so few in this country really know Mexico. I think that's intentional, the US fears what would happen if ever there was a real uprising in Mexico, so their government literally gets away with murder.
And that’s why we need a wall
This seems to be the real danger to Mexico of reduced exportation of the poor to the US. More domestic poor, more discontent, more pressure on the government. The border has always been used by the corrupt Mexican government as a pressure relief valve to keep the ruling elites in power and the poor safely in their place. They’ve also relied on the billions sent south as a revenue stream for the government. The only true immigration reform for the US is a total reform of the Mexican style of government.
If it were up to Trump I suspect he’d do a speech to that effect, but the repercussions would be fairly immediate and unpredictable. It’s coming eventually anyway, might as well get it over with. Mexico’s a narcostate run by an elite kleptocracy. They are as corrupt as it gets.
I've said practically forever that all benefits paid to or on behalf of non-citizens must be charged back to their countries of origin. Maybe this administration will listen.
