I’m a Carroll descendant myself through my paternal grandmother. Do you know the origin of your Carroll line? Mine came down from Maryland but no record indicating that they were ever Catholic, reference being to the Carrolls of Carrollton.

I don’t have any real knowledge of the family’s whereabouts before Colonial South Carolina.

There is a story on Rootsweb saying that the Carrolls of SC are descended from a soldier in the service of William of Orange at the Battle of River Boyne who was given a land grant in the York District.

Maryland was settled by the Catholic Calverts, but was declared a Religious Freedom colony. I grew up in Maryland and Catholic or Protestant, we always worked together and dated each other with no problems.
