Zero Hedge

Shortly after Donald Trump made good on one of his core campaign promises on Monday morning by signing an executive order formally withdrawing the U.S. from the Trans-Pacific Partnership free-trade deal, Trump told labor union leaders that he would renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement "at the appropriate time."

The remarks came at the start of a meeting at the White House with leaders of construction, carpenters, plumbers and sheet metal unions, during which Trump pledged to stop trade deals that harmed American workers.

According to the White House, participants included North America's Building Trades Unions President Sean McGarvey, Laborers' International Union of North America President Terry O'Sullivan, SMART sheet metal workers' union President Joseph Sellers, United Brotherhood of Carpenters President Doug McCarron and Mark McManus, president of the United Association that represents plumbers, pipefitters, welders and others. The union meeting also included several local union officials and follows a gathering of 12 chief executives of large companies at the White House to discuss revitalizing the U.S. manufacturing economy.

“This is a group that I know well,” Trump said referring to the union bosses, adding “we’re going to put a lot of people back to work” and “stop the ridiculous trade deals.”

When Trump said the administration “just officially terminated TPP,” it prompted applause from the labor chiefs (and this time it certainly wasn't by paid members of the studio audience), who later described their meeting with Trump as "incredible."

They will be the “Celebrity Party”, that’s pretty much all they’ve got now.

How could trade deals impact building unions? As far as I know, China is not making buildings and shipping

Listen, I know that many patriots have learned to hate unions because the union ledership has aligned themselves with the far-left Democrat party. However, it doesn't take a stretch the imagination to believe that without American unions, the majority of Americans, you included, would be working 18 hours days, living in holes in the ground, and being fed scraps by corporations.

If you think union members are not real freedom-loving Americans then you need to explain to everyone on this forum why the Rust Belt, a collection of heavily unionized states, voted for Trump.

It is the union leadership, not the unions that is the problem. We need to find a way for regular union members to regain control of the unions - just like the rest of America needs to regain control of government bureauracracies, education, the legal system, and corporations.

I am as pro-Trump is any man you'll ever find and I'm the son of a union coal miner so I take offense with your branding all union members as Bolsheviks. They are good, honest, patriotic Americans and they deserve better than shit like this from you.

There is not one major pillar of American society that has not been infiltrated by far-left termites. Don't throw out the babies with the bathwater

They will never lose the public employee unions.

The public employee unions are the main problem.

Good point.

This is completely OT, but I thought Brian Poole's performance in the NFC championship was outstanding, and, while there are challenges awaiting him and the rest of the Falcons in the SB, he is up to the task.

Trump is dismantling the Democrat Coalition. Amazing.

Obama intentionally dismantled the Democrat coalition and threw the middle class blue collar workers under the bus

The unions hated what Obama was doing - it showed that the union bosses had very little sway over keeping union members working. Trump will do what Obama wouldn’t do and what the union “leadership” couldn’t do - put their people back to work.

"Obama intentionally dismantled the Democrat coalition and threw the middle class blue collar workers under the bus "

The Democrats are killing themselves with the anti-White, anti-male, anti-police and pro-LGBT and pro-BLM crap.
