In memory of the GREAT works of Obama....
(Daniel Jennings) It is now prohibited for the federal government to describe people as American Indians or Spanish-speaking, according to a new law signed by President Obama on May 20
The law, House Resolution (HR) 4238, targets what supporters of the bill called outdated and even offensive terms in laws which were written decades or generations ago, Media Research Center reported.
Seven terms are now prohibited: American Indian, Indians, Eskimo, Oriental, Aleut, Spanish speaking and Spanish descent. They have been replaced by phrases such as Native American, Alaska Natives, Asian American, Hispanic and Pacific Islanders.
The law amended the Department of Energy Organization Act, and the Local Public Works Capital Development and Investment Act of 1976, each of which used old terms.
Many Americans may not be aware that the word Oriental is derogatory, the bills sponsor US Rep. Grace Meng (D-New York) said in a press release. But it is an insulting term that needed to be removed from the books, and I am extremely pleased that my legislation to do that is now the law of the land.
I am sorry, but this Oklahoma Choctaw will be an “Indian” until the day I die. It’s honorable and people know who and what you are talking about.
Who the #@&% decided that the term “Oriental” is derogatory??? I cannot STAND these language Nazis!!! Well, just one more item for President Trump to nullify ! ;)
A ‘resolution’ became law?
And on the Paiute Reservation near me, there are signs everywhere that say "Indian" and they all call themselves American Indians except when talking to Federal Government people, then it becomes "Native American."
If wee barry did this on his own, then Preside3nt Trump MUST undo it ASAP !
Exactly. At pow-wows (again, a suspect word) around here, Indian vendors put up signs that say “N-D-N Tacos.” No one seems to take any offense. What’s important is the fry-bread that is used to make them! (And the salt pork.)
GOD BLESS YOU!
I hear you. I love Indian Tacos made with fry bread! Very popular here. And that is exactly what they are called here too, “Indian Tacos,” or “N-D-N” tacos.
And every Pow-Wow that I have ever attended opens with the Trooping of the Colors, a Salute to Our Beloved Indian Veterans, a Prayer, and the Pledge of Allegiance.
What we Northern MiQ’Maw find offensive is the New Age Wiccan Vendors who seem to think that mixing a few Chinese dream catchers in with their crystals and goddess amulets somehow make them fit right in.
P.S. my moniker here on FR “Inyo-Mono” are two Paiute-Shoshone Indian words meaning “Indian Land” an “grubs” a staple food in the old days.
Same here.
Thank You for that affirmation, FRiend! _|:-)
I live in “Land of the Red Man” Choctaw = Oklahoma. Other people (and the NCAA!!!!) live in Indianapolis and in INDIANa. Not to mention UTEah and the Dakotas. Geez.
It is kind of funny isn’t it? Those names were given to honor a people.
Really! But then, rational thought is not the hallmark of a liberal.
it would be nice, if after having suffered 8 miserable years under that man- to never see his name mentioned again
If 0buttbongo was in office one more day, he would have tried to ban reality itself!
May his name and memory be erased!

No kidding! A bit of California Hollywood makes everything just so cool. Add a bit of pan flute on the recorded track and you’re ready to dance. Yuck!
