Didn’t notice that. In 1976 he ran as VP with Gerald Ford against Jimmy Carter. I think he also lost the nomination for POTUS in 1980 and 1988........
But Dole did get the nomination in 96 but lost.
I think he was handled to ridgedly and if he had have been allowed to be himself he would have won.
He has quite a wit but back then a no-no, not presidential to appear as a real person, so wrong.
So refreshing that Pres. Trump is himself and not someone that the advisors thought he should be.
