Washington (CNN)In the final days of President Barack Obama's second term, a couple of his critics took a moment to express some kind words.
Sens. Tom Cotton, R-Arkansas, and Joe Manchin, D-West Virginia, told CNN's Wolf Blitzer in separate interviews Wednesday that Obama brought "dignity" to the nation's highest office.
Cotton, a junior senator and frequent critic of Obama's national security decisions, said: "President Obama has been a good role model for young men throughout our society, especially people like him who grew up without a father." "I think the kind of quiet dignity that he's brought to the private side of his life sets a really good example for young men all around the country who maybe don't have a father-figure or don't have a role model they can look up to," Cotton said.
And Manchin, a moderate Democrat from a conservative state, sized up Obama's legacy in a few words. "He really brought a lot of dignity to the office, when you look at basically his family life and how he raised these two wonderful daughters," Manchin said.
He struck a similar note as Cotton, but also praised the direction Obama pulled the country in, while acknowledging their policy differences.
"The way he came in, and the way he's going out: without any mars to it, without any blemishes, without any scandal," Manchin said. "We are in better shape right now. The thing that bothers me most is we have about a $20 trillion debt."

Mister Obama brought the precise opposite of “dignity” to the office.
The man, so apparently, has no feeling for our Fine Country’s history, borders, culture, and wonderful and hardworking CITIZENS; and for our peerless Constitution; and for the term “presidential”.
Their definition of Dignity differs from mine.
Who is that woman on the right? She sure is ugly.
And angry.
He was being gracious.
Glad to see Obama go. But he just did his best, for what it’s worth.
He certainly has grayed, like all other presidents.
It is probably the most stressful job in the world.
Jealous, too.
This just pegged my bullshit meter.
well u must admit..its more dignified then when he has his lips in a fly....
Who was it that said he cleans up well and doesn’t talk like he is uneducated?
I’ll go that far and that is IT.
They are trying the RINO bullcrap of appeasing the rats in the senate and CNN. Manchin just lost in 2018 with that line. Cotton was trying to make nice to CNN. He’ll learn fast.
CNN crew hosts all sickos.
Manchin had best get his head out of his a$$. Next to Jesus DJT will be the most popular man in WVa in 2018. Even if Manchin goes Republican he will be toast without Trump’s blessing.
Remember that posh shindig on Sea Island, Georgia last spring?
All the Never Trumpers flew in on private jets paid for by their donors, trying to figure out a way to stop Donald Trump.
Karl Rove was there. So was Ben sASSe, Paul Ryan, and many others, including Tom Cotton.
I haven’t trusted him since.
cotten SIMPLY said that young black men and youths now have male role models that aren’t rappers or power forwards in the nba.
and he’s 100% right. it’s obama’s single undeniable accomplishment.
jesus, people. read the article. then lose your mind
He brought grave dishonor to himself, his office and the entire U.S.A.
Total BS
Oh, I didn’t see that it was CNN.....Continuously No News (except for the Fake Kinds)..
