Obama probably expects that several times a week he can make an attack on Trump or the Republicans in Congress and the media will treat that as the #1 news story of the day. How long that will work as a tactic, I don't know.

When George W. Bush held a press conference, it was Daniel in the lions' den. When Obama holds a press conference, it's a rock star surrounded by a bunch of teen-aged groupies.
