I tried French but kept getting it jumbled with the Spanish I took for 4 years - and have now mostly forgotten.
LOL. I had the exact opposite experience: I took French for 4 years and got that jumbled up when I tried to learn Spanish!
That said, if you can “hear” one, you can mostly hear the other in my experience.
PS Then there are the tonal languages such as Japanese. Really struggle with those...
