Atlanta’s deputy police chief says he’s concerned about an upward trend in murders across the city.
So far this year, there have been six homicides in the city of Atlanta. That’s three times the amount the city had at this time last year.
“We're concerned about the trend, anytime you have homicides, you’re concerned. But this time last year, we had two,” APD Deputy Chief Darryl Tolleson said.
By the end of January 2016, there were just eight homicides in the city.
Tolleson said four additional detective slots have just been added to the APD homicide unit.
Last year, Atlanta had a total of 111 homicides.
“(That was the first time) since 2008 that we’ve been over 100,” he said.

Glad to see Newark NJ in the house! Years ago they stopped our state police from intercepting guns and drugs coming north into NJ on our highways; they’ve been dropping like flies in our ghettoes ever since.
My grandparents had an active Oklahoma farm and cattle ranch in the `20s through the `50s. So I’m a legacy.
Along with about a thousand other things, my mother, her sister, two brothers and their parents chopped and picked their own cotton.
American doesn’t have a gun problem. We have a thug problem. I’m sure law abiding black people who must deal with thugs daily would be the first to agree with me.
Our sainted first black president did nothing but make gang signs, hold `beer summits’ and inflame the racial divide.
That bad ol’ Trump, OTOH, has a plan: “Work with Congress on a Restoring Community Safety Act. Reduces surging crime, drugs and violence by creating a Task Force On Violent Crime and increasing funding for programs that train and assist local police; increases resources for federal law enforcement agencies and federal prosecutors to dismantle criminal gangs and put violent offenders behind bars.”
Chicago scoffs at Atlanta’s murder numbers in the same way that they scoff as Atlanta shuts down over a half inch of snow. Sorry, Atlanta, but you’re not ready for the big leagues.
