Betsy DeVos Fight Demonstrates Donald Trump’s Serious About Changing Washington

At its heart, this nomination is about something much larger than Betsy DeVos. This is “a proxy war. And it just happens to be coming to a head in the U.S. Senate,” according to Andy Smarick, a resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute.

He’s right. This is a story about a changing America. And, in a sense, what could happen to public schools and teachers’ unions might ironically parallel the plight of the coal miners and factory workers who voted for Donald Trump.

*snip*

Here’s the thing to know about Donald Trump’s cabinet and staff picks: They are about action and getting things done. Tapping Rep. Tom Price (R-GA) for Health and Human Services demonstrated Trump’s commitment to repealing and replacing Obamacare. With Gen. Michael Flynn as National Security Advisor, it was about Trump’s commitment to destroying the socalled Islamic State and radical Islamism. With Jeff Sessions as Attorney General, it’s hard not to see that Trump is sending a message about law and order.

These probably aren’t the kind of nominees you would put up if you were looking for someone to safely and competently manage a large bureaucracy without making too many waves. These are picks intended to upset the apple cart. Trump doesn’t want to manage the status quo; he wants to shift the paradigm. Six of Trump’s domestic policy cabinet members have no governmental experience at all.

I wish Betsy much success in dismantling the failed public school monopoly. This will be a difficult job but with Trump supporting her I believe she will succeed and THAT will make America Great Again.

I judge Trump’s picks based on how much backlash they get from both Dems and Media. ;)

Tiny Tim Kaine was also on the war path - but his lisp got in the way.

It’s time to get a leader who cares more about educating children that she does about dues for teacher unions.

Assuming true school choice, vouchers, etc., become a reality and workable system, will it really make a difference if Common Core and leftist indoctrination is not eliminated?

Common Core (or whatever name they eventually put on it) must be eliminated and local control and decision making must be central to any reform.

Are the Trump people in general, and Ms. DeVos in particular, committed to totally eradicating the indoctrination of our children by the left?

I hope so.

Picking Trump was the biggest upset and it appears he's carrying out his promises to upset more applecarts. Thank goodness.

Agreed. IMHO, DeVos the most important battle. If she can break the back of the teachers unions, and get education back on the right path, we might just have a chance as a republic.

So far what is seen of Pres. Trump’s Cabinet picks so far, could be equated to a, (his), Naval Task Force Fleet, with more coming on line.

One reason I started supporting him and voted for him was that he had the right enemies. The same people and groups of people that hate him, hate me. And as far as I am concerned, the feeling is mutual.

I saw a microaggression against Dutch names in an article yesterday. The editor let her name be spelled “Devos”.

Unless his favorite song is “Are We Not Men? We Are Devo”.

If DC is upset (Democrat Communists), the appointee pick is the right one. If the DCs attack the appointee, the appointee is doing the right thing.

The same way Maxine Waters, ‘Box of Rocks’ Boxer (now retired), Barbara Jackson Lee, Hank Johnson (Guam tipping over), and dare I say it .... Communist John Lewis, etc. get elected.
