I know it isn’t popular, but I want someone to explain to me how Iran is ANY worse than the wahabbist Sunnis. ISIS is sunni, 9/11 was sunni, the Boston bombers were sunni, 7/7 was sunni, Madrid was Sunni, Beslan was sunni, Paris was sunni, Nice truck attack was sunni, Berlin was sunni, the euro rape-ugees are sunni, two Russian airliners blown up near Volgograd was sunni. The Russian airliner in the Sinai was sunni, Fort Hood was sunni, the Taliban is Sunni, Osama was sunni, Boko Haram is sunni, the Moslem Brotherhood is sunni, the cartoon contest shooters were sunni, San Bernadino was sunni, the Florida nightclub was sunni...
The list is very lopsided. Iran is an enemy of course, but I hate this anti-iran stampede because what it is actually meant the sunnis as legitimate and an ally, and casting everything shia as the problem.
It isn’t making sense. Again, Iran sucks, but they have small Christian and Jewish communities. Women can drive and have way more freedom than the Saudis do. They have a big Zoroastrian population. Against Saudi Arabia, Iran looks like a wild eyed bunch of free thinkers.

But most here prefer to uncritically follow the neocon/Likud line that Iran is the “big bad” and the Saudis are good, trustworthy fellows.

Not so small if you compare to rest of North Africa and ME.
Approximately 240,000 Armenians in Iran. Largest group of Armenians outside Armenia. And around 50,000 Assyrians. Additionally, overall Christian population is estimated to be growing by approx 20% in Iran (thru conversion).
Problem is that officially they can’t identify themselves as Christians if converts from Islam, if in Iran; so the numbers are definitely larger than stated. There are around 300 churches in Iran today.
Approximately 9,500 Jews (born Jews) in Iran today. The largest number outside Israel and in an officially ‘muslim country’, and a country where the ruling regime are Islamic theocracts. Around 50 synagogues in Iran today.
These are sizeable numbers by ME/North Africa standards, or any officially muslim country.
