To: An.American.Expatriate

Strange because don’t you sign and swear the information on your tax form is correct and true? So they are lying to the IRS on the form. Is that also legal? Sounds like a tangled mess that needs to be fixed. It seems one should be told if their SS is being used. And what happens when there is a duplicate? It sounds more than a bit crazy - sounds very crazy!

Essentially, they are not “lying” on the form, they are reporting their income under that number (W4 / 1099) - and filing a return based on it. The IRS can match up the two so “everybody” is happy!

Not sayin’ it’s right - AFAIC we should do away with the income tax (and SS and all the others taken from our income) entirely! Then we wouldn’t need government agencies that can play such games.

Illegals have the right to lie. Actual citizens get their ass thrown in jail.
