I understand his TOTAL time in service in Vietnam was only 922 days before running back to Boston to the work with the Senator there for re-election.

And several of those 92 days were leave, R&R, training and indoctrination.

True?

I had a buddy who spent about 100 days in Country.

First he spent 11 day clearing tunnels with two other guys and me.

Then he had a ChiCom frag thrown in his two-man foxhole. He kicked it into his grenade sump before it blew, but he still got a slice on his neck. Purple Heart #1

Two day later we were finally able to get a Medevac bird in, so we put him on that. The helo promptly was hit by NVA fire and mushed down into a paddy. My buddy took a round through his biceps - only hit muscle, no bone. Purple Heart #2

Two Hearts, so he was pulled out of the bush and left at Hill 55 (Carlos Hathcock’s base) “guarding” the tent with all our seabags. VC used explosives in a hole to toss a “dud” 250# bomb, rewired with a pull fuse, at Hill 55. My buddy took a piece of shrapnel in the calf. Purple Heart #3

Three Hearts and he was sent home after three and a half months in country.

Just like John Kerry, right?
