I'm running it by an IT professional for an opinion on the technical side of the argument. Assuming the tech side holds up, from an investigative perspective, the author makes a good case for adding Alperovitch to the suspect list for the DNC hack (which should be distinguished from the Wikileaks leak, a distinction the media blurs). The key point is that Alperovich is the sole source of the allegation that the hack came from Russia, and he has not shared any information supporting his allegation with other members of the intelligence community. This automatically makes Alperovich a suspect--it's analogous to the case of someone calling the police to report a murder when they happen to be the sole known person at the crime scene. It also makes the intelligence community suspect for failing to verify Alperovich's claim before blaming Russia, pointing towards a politicized investigation. Finally, it undermines the case against identifying Russia as the culprit, if the case is based solely on Alperovitch's word.

The Russian Expat Leading the Fight to Protect America: In a war against hackers, Dmitri Alperovitch and CrowdStrike are our special forces (and Putin's worst nightmare).

At six o'clock on the morning of May 6, Dmitri Alperovitch woke up in a Los Angeles hotel to an alarming email. Alperovitch is the thirty-six-year-old cofounder of the cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike, and late the previous night, his company had been asked by the Democratic National Committee to investigate a possible breach of its network. A CrowdStrike security expert had sent the DNC a proprietary software package, called Falcon, that monitors the networks of its clients in real time. Falcon "lit up," the email said, within ten seconds of being installed at the DNC: Russia was in the network. . .
