Obama's EPA moves to preserve gas mileage requirements(and ruin our cars)
Fox News Auto/AP ^ | January 13, 2017

The Environmental Protection Agency moved Friday to cement strict fuel economy requirements that force the auto industry to make new cars and trucks significantly more efficient, a decision that will be difficult for the incoming Trump administration to undo.

The EPA said in late November that it had completed a required midterm review of Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards put in place in 2012 and decided they should not be relaxed as requested by the auto industry. The move in the waning days of the Obama administration brought protests from the industry, which accused the agency of playing politics with a rushed determination.

I surely would enjoy seeing Trump reverse this at the Detroit Auto Show, right before he places his order for the first Dodge Demon.

The only four wheel vehicles currently getting 51.4 mpg or better in the U.S. market are electric cars and Toyota’s hydrogen powered Mirai. Hybrids don’t cut it. In order to meet the EPA targets the majority of new cars will have to be electric or hydrogen powered (which actually have electric motors).

“I certainly wish we could get rid of ethanol - what a horrible idea.”

It ruins small engines too.

Write your “horror”, doom and gloom stories media whores. If I am not mistaken the EPA needs to be very watchful in any of their dealings that will harm our country further. Trump is coming and things are a changing.

Next Friday’s action will make it all meaningless and a lesson for future generations not to repeat such stupid actions.
***************************

One would think that Barry Soetoro/Barack Hussein Obama would be proof enough for anyone that the founders were indeed wise men to require a natural born citizen, someone who was NATUARLLY a US citizen because they could be no other.
Obama told us he was born a British subject.
He is not NATURALLY a US citizen.
He could have chosen to be a Kenyan citizen or a British citizen or an Indonesian citizen (he may still have an Indonesian passport).
But there are still people even here on FreeRepublic who are willing to throw away the protections of the natural born citizen requirement just so their favorite can run, endangering the future of the Republic and all generations to come.

I have heard it said many times that Donald Trump as president will have difficulty in unraveling the executive orders which obama has signed over the years.

I am at a loss to understand why something which is put in place with the signature of the president (EO) cannot just as easily be removed buy another executive order put in place by the new president. Perhaps someone can explain this to me?

“But congress did not pass a bill that cars get 50 MPG. Obama asked EPA to come up win the new(ridiculous) standards. They call it an “agreement”.”

It will make for an interesting law case. The whole hand-it-off to an agency is, in my opinion, unconstitutional. But a regulation is likely to have the force of law regardless of its origin. The standards now are ridiculous. The reason most cars are really too small for Americans has to do with meeting current standards. The reason you can’t buy a car with a bench seat is because some agency decided they wanted your feet directly in front of you in the event of a collision. So, we all sit with our legs practically immobilized for the entire useful life of our car because of that.

And congress does not have to provide funding for any enforcement

Bingo! Congress can simply defund the EPA. Problem solved.

“The real question is: who’s whispering in this worthless piece of crap’s jug ears instructing him to do this?”

Don’t know but if we could follow the money we’d find out.

“But since the democrats hate the freedom of mobility that cars represent, they want the goal to be impossible. Their desire is to rid the world of the automobile.”

Yep. In speaking about combating inflation, Democrat Fritz Hollins once said, “there’s too much consumin’ going on out there”.

Now, it seems the dem party’s sentiment is, “there’s too much freedom going on out there”.

Ostupid is daring Trump to undo this so the Dems can use it as a club against him. It is the same with all the other EO and other actions he has taken and will continue to take until he is gone.

The Dems are acting like spoiled brats who are determined to piss in the pool before they are forced too get out.

Trump needs to simply point out that the decision was made in 2 WEEKS after comments were submitted, whereas the normal time is 12 to 16 months.

Based on that, just call it ILLEGAL and require the EPA to revert back to its old standards.

If one president can regulate then another president can UNregulate. Only Congress can pass a law.

“I certainly wish we could get rid of ethanol - what a horrible idea. Drops mileage by at least 3.5% as ethanol has about 1/3 less energy than gasoline and is 10% of the fuel - but in the real world it is more likely to be 6-10% reduction.”

I agree completely. And people should remember that the greatly reviled Ted Cruz was the ONLY republican candidate this time who spoke, in Iowa, against the Renewable Fuel Standards, which are the regulations requiring that ethanol be in our gas.

Perhaps the RFS can be rescinded under Trump!

HOOOOORAAAAY !!!!!

Somebody besides me knows that the EPA only writes REGULATIONS .. WHICH CAN BE AXED AT THE DROP OF A HAT.

I suspect Trump’s picks for these groups has been told: GET RID OF THIS JUNK REGULATION STUFF WHICH IS STIFFLING OUR ECONOMY.
