Surprising - in my experience these dogs are pretty friendly. By the age of 4, most are past the puppy stage when they tend to take many little bites and nips.

On a sidenote, I wonder if Bo and Sunny will be abandoned by the Obamas, once they've left the White House and don't need the dogs for cuddly "happy family" photo-ops anymore.

That was the sad fate of Bill Clinton's chocolate lab, Buddy. The dog was just a prop for BJ Clinton - you could tell Clinton didn't like dogs (and Buddy must have sensed that, because he bit Clinton's hand in view of photographers).

After the Clintons left the White House, Buddy was shut away at the empty Chappaqua mansion with a careless dogkeeper who let him run out into the street - where Buddy was struck by a car and killed.

Buddy? I heard that he jumped up onto Hitlery’s lap and froze to death.

Poor Buddy, I'll bet he thought he was headed for a visit to Fort March Park.

My son has a Rott-Shep mix, a 90 pound bundle of love in a 65 pound package. She lives with us, and I'll play rough with her, though I'm very careful with her so that things don't get out of hand. I never put my face near here, and we tone it down when my 6 YO grandson is with us.

Every now and then, she'll nip me on my hands or arms, enough to bring a drop of blood. When that happens, we both tone it down, as if she knows by my reaction we went too far. And I do mean "we". There's times she'll come up to me and start growling and barking, as if to say, "I want to play...now!" lol
