Wiser heads have told the world for centuries that hate will consume you.
Consuming hate is the result of man’s proud refusal to let God be God. The passion which can move to a moment of necessary counteraction when under direct attack, will diffuse out to feckless dissipation at other times, because we don’t hold the reins of eternal fate — only God does.
They have done no significant public harm other than, sometimes, to visibly share in the immorality that is common to the entire world. Had they been the children of Joe and Jane Blow, we’d never be hearing about that at all.
It’s easy for sinful humans to love the lovely. It’s more of a challenge for them to allow God to bring them into His program of loving the unlovely, so that thereby if willing to change course they may be imbued with the loveliness of God.
And could it be that we are hearing more about these kinds of misbehaviors because this is a more candid age about such things? Many of the scandals of an older age were simply hushed up. One didn’t even talk about whether Thomas Jefferson impregnated a slave, for instance. This didn’t mean that today’s fleshly virtue is better, but that whitewash jobs on the fleshly sins are considered less necessary. Now lying and covering up lying is a different vice, but nobody considers lying to be as bad as, say, twerking. Even though lying can bring down a country a lot faster than twerking can.
