...story out of Philly this am about a street thug
beating up a 60 year old woman because the price
Increased of a sandwich....the thug had no problem squirting the beverage through a protective barrier which prompted the woman to come out to address him.....which lead to the beating...the cost thing is because of the “soda tax” not the sandwich. There will be other posts I’m sure.

How dare the stores pass on the tax to their customers. They make such enormous profits that they can easily absorb the tax. (sarc)

And so obvious a statement to blame the businesses for having to raise prices to cover a new expense mandated by the local government.

The government is the true greed.

What billionare spends 81 million in vacations?

Obama did and in a way that makes the expenses of tin pot dictators in Ukraine and Romania pale in comparison.

“Who in the heck would pay more in tax than for the product????”

Buyers of cigarettes and alcohol have been doing it for years. You just don’t see it itemized at the cash register.

The article says Philly. In other words a big city, not a backwater.

Like I said, it is a settling pond for socialist sludge. Big cities can be very backwater and unimportant.

A carton of Pall Mall 100s is $70 in PA and $36 in VA...just saying.

There ain't no sugar tax outside of the Philly city limits...

They’re supposed to pay it and then sell the product at a loss (which also would defeat the purpose of curbing the consumption)...

Smokers. Cigarettes could be sold US tax exempt for something like $0.50 per pack, the rest is tax.

Mayor institutes a tax then blames the soda distributers for raising prices to cover the city mandated cost. What a P.O.S. Has to be DemocRAT.

He’s just taking his cues from Harrisburg, which just raised the tax on gasoline refiners, but implies it is their choice to pass it on to consumers.

New Hampshire has been dogging out Mass. and Maine for years for taxes on beer booze and cigarettes for years .....you cross into their state and their are huge stores with tax-free booze and beer .....state congress people from Massachusetts drive up (with state owned cars) and buy in bulk...after taxing their own constituents to death on the same products....the guy Kenny is a moron but so are the voters in that area. Brew your own beer or even distill your own booze...its not hard and you will be surprised how it can pay for itself in time ....

Back in 2000 Bloomberg raised the cig tax. They went up if I remember correctly a dollar or more a pack. My wife and I smoked 2 pks a day at the time. We put the cigs back and never smoked again. They said oh the reason was my health bs it was for additional revenue which they lost from us

So is this going to apply “across-the-board” city wide to include “soda fountain” sales also??

If it does, would that also mean fast food places along with restaurants and sport venues?

IMHO, if this mayor doesn’t hire a food tester and someone to start his car, it will finally come to him when nobody on the planet will give him a life insurance policy with an annual premium cost for less than the cost of a new 2017 Maserati.
