During his exile from power after the slapping incident, Patton was put in charge of a phantom army with fake radio traffic just to keep the Germans off balance. That way, when he materialized in France after D-Day in charge of the Third Army, it sent the Germans into a holy panic.

Just to be a history nerd, the Germans didn’t actually know it was Patton flattening them for almost a month because Ike wouldn’t release the name of the 3ed army commander to the press for reasons he never explained.
