The only reason “The Color Purple” sold so well was because it was “required reading” in 100 level contemporary Lit. classes in the eighties. Read from a more adult perspective it boils down to “men suck, white men doubly so, and lesbians are awesome!” Alice Walkers’ daughter hates her mother. Literally hates her for the way she was raised. Alice Walker is a crappy writer and mediocre human being.
