Deshaun Watson's 2-yard touchdown pass to Hunter Renfrow with 1 second remaining gave Clemson a wild 35-31 win over Alabama in the College Football Playoff national championship game.
Watson completed 36 of 56 passes for 420 yards and three scores in his last college game, as the Tigers (14-1) got their first national title since 1981.

Maybe pOpe Frank will get ‘upset’ this year and the Catholic Church will get lucky-saved.
Saban will have his sixth at Alabama before we know it. It not next year within a year or two. He is a winner with an incredibly deep team.
I am thrilled his young QB had that huge go ahead TD towards the end, or he would have faced a lot of overplayed scrutiny. He’s only 18 and did well all things considered. He can hopefully develop and win one later. More thrilled for Deshaun Watson. A true champion well deserved.
Also, OSU in 2002, Bama in 2009, Auburn in 2010, FSU in 2013, OSU in 2014, and Bama in 2015. (14-game winners.)
Well, I was for Clemson, just for that reason ... balance, you know ... but I didn’t really believe they could do it ... until they did! Quite a finish.
And well, I just have to mention it, not to be a downer or anything, but it seemed to me this was just about the most predominately black football game I ever watched, the key being two black quarterbacks ( At least since we used to watch Grambling football in condensed format back in the seventies ( ... “and how about these little windows” ) ).
There were very many screen shots where every player in view was black.
Don’t know what it means, but to me it’s the elephant in the room.
Oh yeah, Nick is one of the finest coaches I have ever seen.
So glad he did not, ah, fit in, I guess, with the NFL, because he is where he needs to be, positively influencing the lives of young men.
I have an endless amount of respect for him. Wish I had known someone like him when I was young.
And I’m super happy for Clemson, even though obviously I was rooting for Alabama.
Nothing but good comes out of contests like this.
A white guy scored the winning touchdown.
We’re LSU Bama and Ole Miss folks in that order
But Clemson won it straight out
Job well done
Go Dixie!
Some friends of ours from Fairhope are huge Tide freaks but the husband played at Bama in early 90s with Dabo who walked on....and his wife and Dabos wife Kathleen have been buds since then too
So when it was Bama and Clemson they went from crimson to orange and blue
Sweeney gave them tickets for Tampa
But drive by their house all year and Tide flags everywhere
Dabo Sweeney and his wife Kathleen are fine Christians btw
Hearing him and the players mention God so much was heart rending
Alabama is still Alabama
The Led Zepplin of college football
Best team ever!!!
That’s just how it is...the Yankees of college football
The team everyone wants to be
But Clemson rallied....
Bama front 7 on defense rocked that QB but he hanged tuff
Man what a fourth quarter. Amazing. Meryl Streep says football isn’t art. She is so full of her silly self. Yay Tigers!
Both teams played a great game right up to the last second.
It seemed like whomever had the ball last was destined to win, they each could have kept scoring!
My team was not playing tonight, but we sure enjoyed this game.
Congrats to all the players and glad there were no bad injuries.
That’s not totally accurate
Kiffin was already spending time on his new job at FAU
and missing meetings etc
Saban does not suffer fools gladly
I think we all know that
Hey at least Clemmie has the right color scheme..lol
I was in Gainesville last week btw
Old town must be fun as a student...you could do worse no doubt
Stopped on our way to the Citrus Bowl....where Purple and Gold carried the day!
Otay! Then there was Ben Boulware ... they played him up big ... the crazy white guy. Where is all this going? I only have questions.
In unrelated news there’s a report that students ( in England? ) want to remove Plato and Kant from the Philosophy syllabus because they’re “too white”.
Can Newton and Einstein be far behind?
... just questions.
Congratulations Clemson Tigers. They pounded OSU in the semi (I watched 2 quarters..the only football I watched all season) I wasn’t sure if they could play that well against Alabama. I figured it should be a very good game and it looks like it was (no I did not watch it).
Clemson had to take Offensive dominance while Alabama’s strong Defense had to fail to hold. It happened and Tigers deserve the win.
Miami Dolphins fans do not share your high opinion of Nick Saban. Apparently, he couldn't handle the challenge of being a NFL head coach. He bailed out on the Dolphins like a b---h.
But Nick Saban will probably be back as a head coach in the NFL someday, if he wants to. Maybe he'll give it another shot...
Excellent! Tired of hearing that Alabama was unbeatable.
I’m sure they don’t.
I’m not sure anyone can fix The Dolphins. Dunno hat’s wrong there, but it’s serious. Might even be worse than the problems that exist for The Saints, but I’m not sure.
The NFL isn’t the place for Saban. That’s obvious. I think he realized it quickly and made the change he needed to make. I can’t fault Miami fans for being mad. I was mad when he left LSU.
But I’m not able to remain angry at him. I respect him too much. Not because he’s a winning coach, but because he affects the lives of young people in a positive manner. So that’s why I think he should stay at the college level. The NFL is basically a bunch of MERCS. Not sure how you motivate such people outside of money.
Yeah! Go Dawgs!
Wonderful game. I enjoyed every minute of it.
Watson was the difference. He’s calm, cool and collected. We’ll be seeing him on Sundays.
I watched half a quarter of one NCAA game this year. It was NC State outplaying Clemson and blowing it on a FG kick,
Same.
