FBI: Ft. Lauderdale shooting suspect left newborn in vehicle while meeting with Anchorage agents

When 26-year-old Esteban Santiago met with FBI agents on Nov. 7 about hearing voices in his head, he left his newborn child outside in his vehicle in freezing temperatures but was not arrested, officials said Saturday....

Marlon Ritzman, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Anchorage, Alaska, office, ... “In November 2016, Mr. Santiago walked into the Anchorage FBI office to report that his mind was being controlled by U.S. intelligence agencies. ... Mr. Santiago appeared agitated, incoherent and made disjointed statements.” Santiago told agents he “did not want to hurt anyone,” but out of caution, the FBI contacted the APD, Ritzman said.

The man had a loaded magazine on him, but left his handgun in his vehicle while meeting with FBI agents, Anchorage Police Chief Chris Tolley said.

When agents and officers went to the vehicle to retrieve the gun, they found Santiago’s newborn child in the unattended vehicle, Tolley said. Officials did not say how long the child had been alone in the vehicle and did not explain why Santiago was not arrested in connection with the incident. According to the National Weather Service, the high temperature in Anchorage on Nov. 7, was 39 degrees.

“His girlfriend at the time was contacted – we retrieved the child and she was contacted and came and picked the child up,” Ritzman said. The APD took Santiago’s handgun while he was taken for a mental evaluation at a local hospital, Tolley said.

On Nov. 30, he requested to have it returned but officials did not release it to him that day, Tolley said. Police released the handgun to Santiago on Dec. 8, he added. ...Answering questions about why a handgun would be returned to someone exhibiting serious mental health issues, U.S. District Attorney Karen Loeffler said police and FBI agents had no legal reason not to.

“Law enforcement operates within the statutes that are given to them,” she said. “As far as I know, there was – this was not somebody who would be prohibited based on the information that they had.

“Absent a law allowing them to keep the gun … under federal law there wouldn’t have been a basis that I’m aware of.”

As to the question of why Santiago was not placed on a no-fly list because of his mental health status, Ritzman said there was no legal basis to do so.

“I want to be clear, during our initial investigation, we found no ties to terrorism,” Ritzman said. “He broke no laws when he came into our office making disjointed comments about mind control.”

From the final line in the article:

Ritzman said. “He broke no laws when he came into our office making disjointed comments about mind control.”

BUT:

He broke the law when he left the newborn baby in the cold out in the parking lot unattended in temperatures near freezing.

How could the FBI have so quickly researched him and absolved him of possible terrorism connections and released him to the APD in the amount of time that a new baby (6-9 weeks old) would not to freeze to death in the car? 10 minutes ... 20 minutes ... 30 minutes

This news report appears to be the true accounting of the facts before they amended them later on Sunday.

That story is posted to FR yesterday: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/3512090/posts

It's child endangerment ignored by the FBI & APD. It's a conflicting story from the FBI based upon their intake of an armed and highly capable man who was warning that he's was being pressured to commit acts of terrorism.

I thought I read this morning that the feds had denied the child was found in the car outside. Now it’s the opposite.

This is article is the earlier real story, IMO. The second article Sunday was the correction to the truth.- CYA time.

Since the baby was not rushed for warming to the hospital, they spent very little time speaking with Santiago. They can’t have it both ways.

When I first read the story, I was under the impression that the girl friend had driven him to the FBI. That’s not the case.

He stepped in to tell them of his suspicions. They spoke for a while and called APD. APD arrives, then they spotted the magazine and asked about his weapon, he said, ‘yep, my guns in car.’

I read another article saying that he had brought the baby inside where it was attended to until the mother picked it up. Hard to know what to believe.

The one question that nobody seems to want to touch: were any steps taken to determine whether Santiago was telling the truth about being a victim of a mind control program?

I’m pretty sure that’s not something you can just Google.

Should have seen the Brian Ross cover-up an hour ago - cropped up from the bottom the finger to the sky for Allah, no mention of Aashiq Hammad, weak attempt to blame-shift to the armed forces.

Considered shitting up Ross's Twitter timeline, but he had all of 4 retweets and 6 likes, and had even tweeted it twice - once personally and once retweeted as "BrianRossTeam" lol what kind of fantasist nightmare is that - Ross is so 2007 I actually felt sorry for him and took a pass...

His attorney may pursue that line. Now that

...all of his electronics have been seized by the feds

... his home has been searched and possibly sanitized by the feds

...and any possibly revealing evidence has been removed

... and the inn where he also stayed was evacuated and searched

What evidence will he have to present assuming that he was MK’d.

If he was the subject of ‘conditioning’ he should have recorded it and forwarded to someone or he’s out of luck in proving his claim.

this is starting to look like a take mentally disturbed individual and point him in a direction that might intercept the president or cause a incident that will bring more cause for gun control . a 72 hour hold on him should have happened and the weapon never should of been given back to him with out him going to court to get it back. if he was suffering a I schitsafrentic break break it should of been caught at the hospital. someone wanted him out and about. I am guessing that there are serval individuals that are mentally ill being point in the direction of the president. I would be interested to see who this guy has been talking to before seeing the FBI.

Many are beginning to suspect exactly the same.

Santiago went rogue by reporting. And he failed to save a bullet for himself.

Why is there a 5th deceased victim whom has not been identified? It’s been 3 !/2 days.

The next day after this story was out, they claimed the baby was always attended- CYA.

That conflicts with the original story which clearly states the FBI & APD went together to retrieve the gun from the car and discovered the baby.

Will President Trump’s Justice Department have access to any records as to whether or not an order to stand down was given in cases like this?

I would be curious to see a list of how often it happened for those who went on to commit other crimes (terrorism, BLM-related, etc.). For the sake of history knowing the full thrust of Mr. Obama’s legacy.
