This is very sad. They did not have this feeling, that most city Americans have dealt with for decades. I never felt safe walking around most parts of LA after dark. But when I lived in Switzerland, and we did spend time in Germany, women from 16 to 96 could walk to the corner after dark and shop or eat. It was really nice.

They destroyed that, potentially forever.

My husband and I traveled to London quite a bit in the 80’s and 90’s and we always felt safe walking at night and never felt unsafe walking by myself during the day. We won’t go back to London again. It’s changed mightily so I can just imagine being a German woman.
