I hear ya there, though the government shouldn’t so much be in the business of helping or hurting companies.

But Bezos is also basically at ground zero for anti-Trump propaganda with his Washington Post.

So even if I were picking winners, it could be a tough call.

Alibaba sells junk and fakes from chicom factories. We don’t need any of that garbage here.

I haven’t actually looked at their stuff, but Amazon sells far too many counterfeit goods themselves.

I do, and I have ordered direct from Alibaba too saving $60 on a specialty computer keyboard ($60 less than Amazon). As for Amazon they market Chinese made junk as well, but while Amazon is steadily replacing workers with robots, Alibaba per this article actually plans to hire a million workers in the US.

I had very high expectations for Trump as President, so far Trump is exceeding those and he’s not even President yet!!!!

But Trump needs to not be dissuaded from General tariffs. Work with Ma and anyone else who is open to creating jobs in the U.S., but level the playing field.

Let those selling into the U.S. market, support our government and any unemployed American workers through a significant tariff like we had in place for 180 years.

The dirty little secret about Amazon is that Alibaba provides a LOT of the products they sell. Direct from China to Amazon warehouses.

Not so sure its winning. I suspect these arent going to be McDs type jobs which means skill will be involved. I also suspect most of the jobs will be blue collar - hot/dirty/physically demanding. The skill pool isnt that thick anymore unless an older generation is willing to forego retirement. The current crop of beginners isnt all that impressive. There are plenty of training ops but not that many willing to make use of it.

I don’t think we can stop the robotization. And I don’t think we really want to either.

Robotization is one of the reasons we need as many processes brought back to the US as we can. The more processes, the slower the impact on labor and the more jobs created implementing and managing the robotization.

But if robot driven automation creates huge labor dislocations, we may need more social programs to help people out. I know conservatives don’t like to hear that. But it’s the truth. On the other hand, until we have raised the tariffs and created jobs and production in the US, we can’t afford more safety nets.

Hello? Trump as a businessman in the free market used to create jobs all over the place. Trump as a federal official can’t create any jobs. All the feds can do, and what they are VERY good at, is HINDER job creation. The best Trump can do is get the freaking feds out of the way. GET THE FEDS OUT OF THE FREE MARKET, and America’s economy will be healthy, growing and great again.

Actually, a lot of stuff get shipped directly from China to the customer now. I was in the post office last week and a woman was trying to return by mail a cheap dress. She was quoted $30 air mail to China. But the item wasn’t worth the postage. Total chicom scam. They ship junk over knowing the customer will never pay to return it.

No US citizen, corporation or entity has the Constitutional right to free, unrestricted trade with any foreign country. Actually the opposite is true. Amazon and Alibaba should become tariff collecting engines for the Feds.

More tariffs and less income taxes.
