I thought confirmation hearings were suppose to BE “ethics investigations”, among other things, with Congressional staffers doing the investigating, and the Congressmen/senators presenting what was found.
That is a big part of the problem with governance in the U.S. We substitute ethics witch-hunts (of the right) for determinations of fitness for office.
As a consequence a large fraction of the most qualified will not agree to accept a senate confirmed appointment. You are putting yourself on the line for ruin.
And if you look at the ethics practiced on both sides Rats and GOPeers, it is the most hypocritical exercise in the moral history of the universe.
