I’ve just come back from volunteering at the Democratic National Convention. I was in the formatting squad of the Press Distribution team, so most of the time my job was to take speeches scripted for the teleprompter (odd punctuation, stage directions, no paragraphs) and format them to look like written English. When there was no formatting work I shifted to the “running” team, which involved getting the hard copies of those speeches to journalists scattered all over the Time-Warner Cable Arena.
