The man police say opened fire with a gun from his checked baggage at a Florida airport had a history of mental health issues some of which followed his military service in Iraq and was receiving psychological treatment at his home in Alaska, his relatives said Friday after the deadly shooting.
Only thing I could tell you was when he came out of Iraq, he wasnt feeling too good, his uncle, Hernan Rivera, told The Record newspaper.
Esteban Santiago, 26, deployed in 2010 as part of the Puerto Rico National Guard, spending a year with an engineering battalion, according to Guard spokesman Maj. Paul Dahlen.
In recent years, Santiago had been living in Anchorage, Alaska, his brother, Bryan Santiago, told The Associated Press from Puerto Rico. Bryan Santiago said his brothers girlfriend had recently called the family to alert them to his treatment.
In November, Esteban told FBI agents in Alaska that the government was controlling his mind and was forcing him to watch Islamic State group videos, a law enforcement official said. The official was not authorized to discuss an ongoing investigation by name and spoke Friday on condition of anonymity.

Pfffffft.
moozlum doing what “good” moozlums do.
So it’s Bush’s fault not Islam’s fault?
Assuming the failed abortion had a mind anywhere in its miserable life it was polluted by islam. May he have many years to suffer miserably.
The question that will be coming from the left is where and how did he secure a handgun and ammunition.
Bet on it.
He lost his mind when he embraced Islam.
It’s his family’s fault. They did nothing to stop him and prevent this.
If they knew something, they should have done something to prevent this.
When my parents were no longer able to drive a car, I had their license’ cancelled and took their car.
“forcing him to watch Islamic State group videos, a law enforcement official said.”
*****
he was being forced to watch CNN?
This guy's a textbook case and could have been easily profiled. Now, innocent people are dead because they refused to do what has to be done. How many people have to die at the hands of these barbarians before we start ferreting out the enemy amongst us?
Just ask Israel. They profile everyone all the time because they have to and so do we.
“When my parents were no longer able to drive a car, I had their license cancelled and took their car.”

Just curious——to have the licenses canceled did you need a doctor’s letter or power of attorney?
.
Yeah, I’ve got that question too.
This guy is clearly schizophrenic and was on the FBI radar and they still let this happen.
He was also a SEX OFFENDER.
Given his abilities, capabilities and functioning level i highly doubt he lost his mind.
He passed through the same “intelligence agencies” that claim the Russians hacked our elections, etc.
Manchurian candidate?
I had both.
My Father was a very intelligent man and realized what would be coming for us as a family.
He had a family trust drawn up to cover all possible eventualities.
I miss my Mom and Dad dearly.
The FBI is looking for Russians who share information and news with Americans, as that is what is dangerous, not ISIS or Islamic terrorists.

“...the Puerto Rico National Guard, spending a year with an engineering battalion...”
Oh, yeah, definitely a hard ass combat veteran. Hmmm...
“He lost his mind when he embraced Islam.”
Yep, Islam will do that to you.
