California braces for 'once-in-10-year' storm amid fears of flooding, avalanches, blizzards

ierra travelers trapped by back-to-back storms that dropped more than 2 feet of snow have a brief window to pass before the arrival of a weather system Saturday so wet forecasters are calling it an "atmospheric river."

Up to 12 inches of rain below 8,500 feet is expected, and massive amounts of snow — up to 6 feet — above that elevation. A fifth, colder storm two days behind will drop yet more heavy snow.

“It’s a once-in-10-year event,” said Zach Tolby, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Reno. “It’s the strongest storm we’ve seen in a long time, the kind of setup we look for to get significant flooding.”

The atmospheric river, or “Pineapple Express,” will be felt across much of California this weekend, though rains will be much heavier in the north than in the south.

Tolby said the storm is packing the same wallop as an atmospheric river that hit Northern California a decade ago that caused $300 million in damage, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The state has already made a political declaration that we are in a "permanent drought".

The political solution is quite simple. The state can simply make a political declaration that "we are in a permanent flood".

Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling! Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes, the dead rising from the grave! Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together. Mass hysteria!

Just God’s way of trying to flush Californicate.

Maybe the extra rain will grease up the plates for a slide-into-the-ocean earthquake?

That’s what I saw. They’re just not down in the gully, but up on the banks by the bike trail/access road. The water would have to pretty high to wash them away. I saw folks right down in the center recessed riverbed a while back.

1. I left California in 1992, moved to Alaska.
2. Problem is a lot of trash has been going to Alaska in recent years.

1. Good for you.

2. Who constitutes "a lot of trash"?

Way too many drug related murders, breakins, stabbings and thefts. You need to read the local news awhile to see it, its really bad. Same denominator for most, sons of you know who.

Well, you need to understand that media SELLS "news."
NO ONE wants to hear how good things are, how happy and/or successful people might be.

People was to hear the BAD stuff. It makes them feel better.

There have always been pit-holes to live in.
Oakland is a perfect example. It has the POSH part of town, the "Oakland Hills" and it has the scumbag part.
Scumbags can't afford to live anywhere nice. They live in skanky parts of everywhere.

If California were so horrible there wouldn't be 38.8 MILLION people here. They would have 1) never come or 2) never stayed. California's economy is the SIXTH largest IN THE WORLD.

GOOGLE: California Economy Grows To 6th Largest In The World « CBS San ... sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2016/07/05/california-economy-gdp-6th-largest/

It has to be nice in California, especially with the state income tax everyone has to pay.

You cannot escape crime unless you choose to live by yourself out in the middle of nowhere.
Unless a big ole grizzly bear wants to break into your cabin and eat YOU.

.

PAX TIBI.
