The record-setting violence Chicago saw in 2016 extended into the New Year -- with 28 people shot in the city on the first day of January alone, according to data from the Chicago Police Department.

The first shooting of 2017 happened at 1:05 a.m. Sunday, when two men were taken to the hospital after one man was shot in the chest and the other in the back in a drive-by, according to the Chicago Police Department.

Three men were killed in the shootings. Of those shot, five victims were women and three of the victims were minors.

Chicago saw 3,550 shooting incidents and 762 murders in 2016, which works out to an average, per day, of more than 9.7 shootings and more than two murders. The 20 shootings on New Year's Day are more than twice the daily average from 2016.

As a general rule the more a Mayor comments on national issues (in this case immigration) the worse the crime, homelessness and general level of city services.

I can say that once Trump gets into office, he’s going to press both the Chicago PD and Illinois state police to be a lot more aggressive in going after the criminal element in Chicago. Just that would cut the crime rate quite a bit.

The BLMers will be all over this and demanding that the evil shooters be arrested and tried in court for these vile acts of murder.

The contrast between Rudy decreasing crime in New York and the increasing violence in Chicago under Rahm Emanuel's lack of leadership is striking. I can't believe we have a domestic war zone on our own soil. Really? 4000 plus shootings and 762 murders in an American city during 2016?

Why do they keep electing the prancer Rahm? My guess is historical Chicago corruption with pay to play and outright bribes.

Remember, Chicago is a no gun city. I know, I'm preaching to the choir here. Someone needs to preach to Chicago, not to mention other urban cities.

No Whitey anywhere near to blame, so you will not hear about it in the news.

Rahm in the near future is going to be the poster boy of all that is wrong with the democratic party, whether he likes it or not!

“The Chicago crisis...”

I am sure there are many in Chicago “old school” political circles who hate him.

4000 plus shootings and 762 murders in an American city during 2016?

Another article I read today indicates that after the murder of a perp in 2015, the Chicago police are now required to submit a two page form that has seventy fields (blanks) for every stop they make. The data is sent to headquarters and the ACLU. Needless to say the "stops" for suspicious activity have dropped dramatically and the murders have skyrocketed.

If there is a bright side (I suppose)--the cops are less likely to get sued. :D

The Cops in Chicago fully earned that.
They are just another gang there.
No change since the days of Al Capone and Frank Nitti.
