allup poll seemed to put a damper on Donald Trump's presidency before he's even sworn in, with fewer than half the public saying he's up to the job of being president.
At least, that's how the results are being reported. But a closer look at the data tells a much different story.
The Gallup results got huge pickup in the press, with most running headlines along the lines of "Most Americans Don't Think Donald Trump Can Handle Being President."
Gallup asked a series of questions to gauge the public's confidence in Trump's ability to handle the economy, prevent major scandals, use military force wisely and other presidential duties.
The results look pretty dismal. Just 46%, for example, are confident that Trump can handle an international crisis, and only 47% are confident that he will use military force wisely. Both were far lower than Trump's two predecessors.
