Trump Takes Aim At House Republicans, And They Run For Cover
washingtonpost.com ^ | January 3

The Trump effect has landed forcefully on Capitol Hill.

Less than two hours after President-elect Donald Trump criticized House Republicans — in a tweet, of course — for trying to gut an ethics investigative unit on the first day of business in the new Congress, those plans lay in shambles in the Republican conference’s meeting room.

The immediate outcome was to keep intact the independent Office of Congressional Ethics

There was a broader outcome, too: The unruly Republican caucus that has wreaked havoc in the House for the entirety of Ryan’s tenure fell in line. And there were signs, judging from Tuesday’s drama, that they might continue doing so this year.

But Ryan is a “fast follower”. His idea of leadership is to figure out which way the wind is blowing and sail into it before everyone else. He bet wrongly on Trump but the interesting thing is that it was like water off a ducks’s back and he flipped right around and acted like he was Trumps best pal again. That shows weakness of character, but leaders know how to take advantage of those weaknesses to build strong teams. Watch as Trump lays out a legislative agenda with Mike Pence as the chief bird-dog and Reince and the rest of his staff right at his side. Ryan will see that train pulling out of the station and jump right on board, just wait and see.

Ryan has been nothing but trouble. He is an establishment sell out, no friend to “conservatives”, nor to Trump, and in general has proven to be a pain in the you-know-what.

Anybody who is an activist for open borders at the cost we have seen in crime as a result and death and destruction of our citizens, who is in line with Soros and the Pope, vicariously sympathizes with enemies of the State. These views were considered anti-American not so long ago, and SEDITIOUS further back.

Many of us believe they still are. Not all of us are so smitten by Ryan’s boy scout appearance and are outraged he can still be elected for anything, never a Speaker.

I mostly agree with you. Ryan is not my favorite and if a true conservative wanted the Speakership, it probably could have been competitive. After the events of the day, it shows Ryan is not a leader - again. However, no one wants the job. Your response was full of substance and a joy to read. The other was infantile. Rita, I have seen your name for years. Sometimes you give it to me good, but you are always thoughtful and fair. I don't mind that.

Well... hmm, "thank you" for the grace you extended to me. I have cussed and catterwalled about Ryan since the little pin head made his first appearance. Scary how he gets anywhere near leadership in HOR. My hope is that TRUMP rolls him like a Saint Bernard might roll a mouse, with one big paw. 😁

All he did was scold them for doing underhanded s&^t and they folded, especially since they need to get to work.

They are in fear of him.

As an
Open borders advocate, Ryan is a muslim sympathizer.

“Trump will have congress eating out of his hand.”

Because, as someone posted previously, THEY ARE GUTLESS! I’m waiting for President Trump to be shown placing Paul RINO’s “nadds” in a box on his desk in the Oval Office.

“However, who were the 117 members that voted for it?”

Check to see who’s been doing most of the “unethical crap” and write down their names! It shouldn’t be a big problem to come up with at least 117 names.

They were gutless before obama, why shouldn’t they be even more gutless before Trump?

The difference is who they are deferring to ... makes a big difference.

The tone deafness was incredible.

Yes, it was Yardstick.

'Incentives' the past 20 years has been for political professionals to 'pick' who runs and wins. Candidates have been chosen for likability, gutlessness, and maneuverability (important to have people like Jeb who will raise millions AND spend millions without too many questions). In short, our Congress people are shallow used-car salesmen (glad hander types)... with limited understanding of backbone or ethics.

Trump needs to spend part of his time getting companies to 'give up' some of their top people to run for office against Democrats in '18. Then he needs to get better people to replace some of the wed noodles on our side... His work is cut out for him...

Let’s face it, weakening ethics is no way to drain a swamp.

Trump won’t be able to get people out of companies until the ridiculous inflated salaries for top people are reduced to the 40 to 1, CEO to lowly worker wage ratios of the 1960s. Currently these ratios range from 200 to 1 up to 1,000 to 1.

Trump’s taken the job of President of the United States and he’s chosen NOT to accept the #400,000 a year the job pays.

He’s accepting ONE dollar a year for his time.

I suspect there are others in the county who can afford similar sacrifices for the sake of the country. They need to run for office...

You’re right - draining the swamp has a lot to do with dumping the corrupt ones.
