Schumer: Dems will slow Trump Cabinet confirmation hearings
The Hill ^ | January 1, 2017 | Mallory Shellbourne

Incoming Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) says his party will target eight of President-elect Donald Trump’s Cabinet picks in an attempt to draw out the confirmation process, according to the Washington Post .

Schumer told Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) that Democrats will target Trump’s picks to head the State, Justice and Education departments, as well as the Office of Management and Budget.

“Any attempt by Republicans to have a series of rushed, truncated hearings before Inauguration Day and before the Congress and public have adequate information on all of them is something Democrats will vehemently resist," Schumer said in a Sunday statement, according to the newspaper.

"If Republicans think they can quickly jam through a whole slate of nominees without a fair hearing process, they’re sorely mistaken," he added, alleging Trump's picks "would break key campaign promises and have made billions off the industries they’d be tasked with regulating.”

Schumer said Democrats want at minimum two days of hearings per Cabinet pick, and no more than two choices should face hearings in the same week.

Democrats will also target Trump’s choices to head the Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of Labor, Treasury and the Environmental Protection Agency.

Not a surprise, the Rats know they can't stop confirmations so they'll delay as long as possible.

Chuckie is as petty as Dingy Harry and 0bama.

Elsewhere, Donna Brasille commands DJT to reach across the aisle and work with the Democrats.

“Schumer said Democrats want at minimum “

I distinctly remember something about want, hell and ice water.

So they have problems in eight departments? I would let them select two to have extended hearings. Trump has announced his picks faster than anyone else so they have had their extra time.

In the absence of these cabinet posts being filled, Trump can directly control those agencies himself with his staff.

Ought to be fun.

I would order the agencies to be wound down.

Ah, I remember the 0bama administration, when Congressional obstruction and government “gridlock” were held to be bad things. But it’s OK, Chuckie, you can still use that filibuster...oh, wait, no you can’t. Somebody named Harry Reid ended that, didn’t he? Whaddaya know...

Trump should hire each candidate at the agency they will lead...hire them as consultants, doing the same job they will do as head of the agency.

They can get a head start on things while the Senate Democrats and McCain/Graham play their power games. The longer the hearing drags on, the longer the candidate remains a consultant...take your time ***holes!!

How does a rat slow-walk the confirmation hearings? Seems pretty useless to me. Set a time in which to discuss, once exceeded, nuke ‘em into office. N-E-E-E-XT!

Harry Reid used the nuclear option in the Senate. I hope Chuck Schumer enjoys what Harry Reid has done. Karma is a double bladed bitch with a bad attitude. Harry Reid’s Karma now lives in the Senate.

“Live with it Chuckie,” your party started the war, Trump will end the war on his terms and not yours.

Of course he’ll do that.

Too bad there isn’t a supermajority in both houses.

McConnell should respond by invoking the Reid Rule and unilaterally abolishing the remaining Supreme Court and legislative filibusters.

The only reason that Harry Reid did not abolish Supreme Court filibusters is because there were so Supreme Court vacancies at the time. The only reason Reid did not abolish legislative filibusters is because the Republicans controlled the House and could easily block any legislation that Reid managed to cram through the Senate.

Unfortunately, McConnell will more like roll over and beg instead.

There's too many to slow down too much. That's why Trump is putting up so many.

It really is up to McConnell and McCain.

That’s pretty petty. The republican green lighted obamas picks with no drama.

But of course everyone knows how little the dens are.
