On the heels of new sanctions enforced by the Obama administration, Russian President Vladimir Putin has released his annual New Year's statement to the international community. CNN repeatedly noted that Putin "sidestepped" President Obama in the statement, instead offering his congratulations to President-elect Donald Trump.
In his annual greetings statement, Putin expressed hope that after Trump is sworn in as US President on January 20, the two countries, "acting in a constructive and pragmatic manner, will be able to take real steps to restore the mechanisms of bilateral cooperation in various areas and take their interaction in the international arena to a whole new level."
The feeling appears to be mutual. When Putin decided not to retaliate against Obama's sanctions, put in place in the wake of supposed Russian hacks that the CIA believes affected the outcome of the 2016 election, Trump praised his patience and intellect.
Great move on delay (by V. Putin) - I always knew he was very smart!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 30, 2016
Putin said he'd like to wait to see what Trump's policies will be when he assumes the presidency. If so inclined, Trump can veto the sanctions.
Yes. Also I'm sure they are back-channel communicating nonstop throughout this transition.
This is about the alleged Russian hacking.
Could somebody, anybody, please tell us what the Russians hacked and how. This supposed operation Grizzly Steppe. It sounds to me, from all the smoke and no fire (humongous smoke bomb) that we incurred spying on the election, but not manipulation. And spying means the possibility of something being revealed that Democrats would not want revealed.
Through the trap door in the floor, I suppose.
Trump told Putin, “Hold my vodka and watch this.”
And Putin did... and then Democrats called it hacking.
actually, Donald doesn’t drink, but figuratively...
While I’m not inclined to accept that Russia has completely thrown off any vestige of Soviet era communism, the shrieking and wailing of our own native communist class tends to more than just support such a contention.
Trump will spare us from having a second one.
Two men who both are reaching out to unite their countries around things other than rivalry on the world scene, would seem to bode well for peace. There isn’t a lot that makes sense for them to feud over today.
One thought was reminded to me recently: North Korea. It’s still being run as a hell hole, though little leaks are beginning to appear. Is Russia still pledging to defend that tinpot? Maybe Russia would like to invite him and his minions to be spirited away to a retirement on some deluxe Russian resort, and let North Korea go to be embraced by South Korea.
Grizzly Steppe? Who came up with that one? Has to be domestic left. Taint the political use of “Grizzly.” Now who might that be, other than their favorite whipping girl?
oh yeah... Sarah Palin
It looks like it is trying to move in the direction of spiritual freedom. I’ve heard it has laws that enforce a number of things we might view as prudish, but at least that’s a concern about the public morality (the better cure would be a wider outreach and acceptance of Christian faith, which calls for respectful human conduct on account of God).
They have a State Church and have been known to be less than friendly to those outside of it. Even under the USSR, they were “prudish” in many ways on the moral and social front internally, while funding western front organizations to undermine morals and social standards in the west.
So, they’ve changed and yet they haven’t. It’s hard not to at least grudgingly admire Putin, patriot supporting his own people and nation as he is, but that does not mean he’s any friend of our own nation and people.
He isn’t. Where our interests coincide, working together is a positive development. But, slipping back into one of the lunacies of past leftist foreign policy, a blinkered “detente” that sees no evil, would be very foolish.
I’m torn on the matter.
I will be sending these to my DILs and younger family members to send to the liberals, they love to taunt.
That will insure Trump of his second term and Pence two terms.
LOL.
Perfect.
