The United Nations Security Councils resolution Friday condemning Israeli settlements as a flagrant violation under international law, and the United States decision not to block it, has been broadly welcomed by anti-settlement advocates.
But it could end up having exactly the opposite effect from the one desired.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has long carried on a delicate balancing act between the right wings pressure to support settlement expansion and the lefts push for peace with the Palestinians. The UNs move may compel him to choose between those forces, and it appears the momentum is on the side of the settlers.
At the time of the last such Security Council resolution on settlements, in 1980, there were fewer than 23,000 Israelis living in the West Bank. Today their numbers are around 400,000 and they have far more influence in Israeli government and society including within Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahus cabinet and the officer ranks of the Israeli Defense Forces, which would be responsible for evacuating settlements in case of dismantlement. . .

Hike Bibi, build your little country! There’s no “peace” on offer anyway. The Moslems have just rejected your right to
Live again — just in the last hour ! Build homes for your people And don’t worry President Trump has already promised he will repair the obama - Kerry damage anyway. Bless the Lord!
“If we elect obama, the rest of the world will love us.”
-*-
Yeah, Israel, Russia, Libya, Iraq, Iran, Egypt, Greece, Turkey, Germany, etc., etc. ..............

Had Arafart taken the 2000 deal Israel put on the table the Palis would have had their state, but he decided instead on war. But that ship sailed and the situation today is very different.
Perfect
It has become a war of facts on the ground.
Possession is the order of the day.
They need to have babies like crazy and remove anything that would restrain settlement expansion.
and, extend the walls
January 21st will be the time for Israel to RELEASE THE KRAKEN of UNLIMITTED SETTLEMENTS in Judea and Samaria.
How will you like THOSE apples, Barry?
That’s exactly what it’s like. The Arab position is “Death to all Jews and maybe we can move away from “all” if you pay us enough money”.
The media criticizes Israel for refusing. And the Israeli hard-left is pretty much okay with it too.
I just had a thought about our country’s desire to have Israel split off a part of itself... Seems we have something like th is going on here, Mexico wants California back, so maybe we should be cool about this and show how we can follow our own words with actions by giving California back. Oh, sure there are some loose strings to tie up. But why not push it?
I know some here might actually like the idea, so what do you think?
“I know some here might actually like the idea, so what do you think?”
As a decent Californian, one of millions, I cannot write here what I think of you or your idea. It’s idiots like you that take away from legitimate discourse here on FR. You have the mental capability of an amoeba! You probably live in some backwater place and couldn’t find California on a map if you tried.
That picture says it all
