Years ago, I was the director of operations at a flight school in Miami. Lotsa students from the Arab countries and Africa. Until they got “The Talk”, they often stunk so bad that you could barely stand being in the same room with them (not to mention a Cessna 152 on a hot day).
The commonly would wear a shirt for a week at a time. Same grease spot, day after day. (Don’t know about everything else.)

Seems to me that Canada has every right to expect immigrants to assimilate to their culture.That includes learning English (and/or French) and behaving in the same civilized ways that are rightfully expected of Canadians.
Of course assimilation is a dirty word today in the US thanks to the likes of Ted Kennedy (and many others).Don't know if the same is true in Canada but I wouldn't be surprised if it was.

Funny. One of my best friends is from valencia Spain and he immigrated to Montreal off all places. What makes him unique is that he did NOT know a word of English NOR French so for a 12 year old boy to overcome everything on his own is no small feat.
