Ex-Wham! singer George Michael dies
BBC ^ | December 25, 2016

Singer George Michael has died aged 53, his publicist has said.

The star, who launched his career with Wham! in the 1980s and later continued his success as a solo performer, is said to have "passed away peacefully at home".

Thames Valley Police said South Central Ambulance Service attended a property in Goring in Oxfordshire at 13:42 GMT.

Police say there were no suspicious circumstances. Michael, who was born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou in north London, sold more than 100m albums throughout a career spanning almost four decades.

Earlier this month it was announced that producer and songwriter Naughty Boy was working with Michael on a new album.

In a statement, the star's publicist said: "It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period.

"The family would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult and emotional time. There will be no further comment at this stage."

It is my least favorite song of all time. There are about 50 versions of it. Sick. Just sick

2016 has been quite a year.

I don't expect 2017 to be much better. The sheer number of well-known celebrities started to explode in the 70s and 80s, and now those folks are entering their 60s and 70s, so expect them to keep dying.

Should have had roses on the piano, rather than tulips on the organ.

Pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP) is a serious infection that causes inflammation and fluid buildup in the lungs. It is caused by a fungus called Pneumocystis jiroveci. Likely spread through the air, this fungus is very common. Most people are exposed to it by age 3 or 4. A healthy immune system can easily control it. But it causes a type of pneumonia in people with weakened immune systems, such as those with HIV/AIDS.

Before HIV medication was available, PCP occurred in 70% to 80% of HIV-positive people. PCP is still the most common opportunistic infection in people with HIV/AIDS. Those with a CD4 cell count less than 200 are at highest risk. (CD4 cells are a type of immune system cell. HIV attacks these cells.)

About 9% of patients with HIV/AIDS who are hospitalized have PCP.

PCP is still a major cause of death in AIDS patients in the United States. The mortality rate is between 5% and 40%, even with treatment.

Stinking shame. I know he probably isn't loved by everyone here on FR, but the guy had a talent and a singing voice when he was in his prime like NOBODY else. His album "faith" showed a soulful range and a pop fun feel...he apparently fell to the sirens of sexual perversion and drugs and hasn't been an A-list celeb for about 20 years.

Very very sad. I hope he made peace with God before he passed.

Of those you listed, only one worth anything as a talent, we lost this year, was Leonard Cohen.

MY best friend’s brother, who is gay, just died in his late 40s early 50s. The AIDS cocktail can suppress HIV strongly in some, but most still slowly deteriorate. I know a few HIV positive folks and you can tell because they look rail thin and frail.

Even if not that, homosexual men die 20-30 years younger than their heterosexual counterparts. This is true even in Canada due to their higher rates of alcoholism, drug abuse, suicide, STDs.

I don’t doubt they live a shorter life span due to “alcoholism, drug abuse, suicide and STDs.” Apart from the STDS, the other behaviors are because being gay is often ostracized and stigmatized in practically all societies. If you happen to be in a Islamic state, you get DEATH... Only just recently in western civilizations, can one be free to say they are gay without suffering too much back lash.

Yeah, no joke. Seriously, though, in terms of physical appearance, there’s not much difference in late-stage HIV and heroin addiction.
