President-elect Donald Trump on Friday praised Vladimir Putin and shared a Christmas letter the Russian president sent him.
"A very nice letter from Vladimir Putin; his thoughts are so correct," Trump said in a statement. "I hope both sides are able to live up to these thoughts, and we do not have to travel an alternate path."
In the attached letter, Putin emphasized the importance of cooperation between the two countries.
"I hope that after you assume the position of the President of the United States of America we will be able by acting in a constructive and pragmatic manner - to take real steps to restore the framework of bilateral cooperation in different areas as well as bring our level of collaboration on the international scene to a qualitatively new level," the Russian leader wrote.

That cartoon brought a tear to my eye
Merry Christmas!
All Trump do is win win win no matter what
Got MAGA on his mind he can never get enough
And every time he step up in the Tower
Voters hands go up
And they stay there
And they say yeah
And they stay there
Up down, up down, up down
Cause all Trump do is win win win
Russkies back down on a new arms race when Trump says “Bring it on.” Merry Christmas.” It’s a new day.
The same cartoon again?????
I do not share your opinion of ‘Russkie’ behavior.
I think that Putin genuinely want good bilateral relations with the US and Europe - but he is not willing to cede Russian interests to do so.
I have issues with Russian ties with Iran - but otherwise do not see any reason Russia should not be one of our best allies. And yes I am aware of events in Georgia and Ukraine.
Sounds to me like Putin won’t take the obama/NeoCon bait to start WW3.
An honest historian will have obama and clinton go down as the biggest incompetent fools this country has ever seen.
Great cartoon!!
I was shocked to hear on the radio yesterday that Pepe is a symbol for white supremacy!?!?!? He’s not even white.

Like everybody else, Russia has choices.
I can’t see the perpetual solution to Iran being to keep buying it. That gets Russia some time, but Islamic nuts are Islamic nuts. The USA under Trump could give Russia a chance to get off of that growing tiger.
Googling Pepe Kek turns up some interesting meme-ology. Apparently borrowed from an ancient Egyptian god one of whose meanings is a bringer of light, he was adapted as a whimsical meme mascot by some geek minded (but not particularly Judeo-Christian minded) Trump supporters.
I personally wouldn’t salute this frog, but certainly it has Trump opponents “knee-deep” in indignation.
You must have been listening to fake news. Pepe is not racist
Historically, Russia has a history of conflict with Persia going back many centuries into czarist times.
Russia’s history of conflict with the Turks is every bit as extensive — and better documented in English, if you know where to look.
I’ve been doing a lot of reading lately about World War One in the Middle East. Although I thought I was reasonably up on Gallipoli, Kut, the Arab Revolt, and so on, I was surprised to learn that Russians and Turks fought fiercely in the Caucasus region.
So, if history is any guide, it’s hard to see any lasting rapprochement between Orthodox and Moslem. They are hereditary enemies.
Pepe is a symbol for white supremacy!?!?!? Hes not even white.
Green is the new white.
The Russians don't want to go the full Ukraine route we did and overthrow the government when there's nothing but a different bunch of thieves to take over so they'll bide their time and do the job right.
They have no intention of allowing the Turks to gain more than a certain amount of power and influence in the region but they're patient enough to achieve that goal over time rather than stomping around, overthrowing governments, and leaving anarchy in their wake. The US, OTOH, has shown that it's not only willing to sow anarchy around the world, they actually like the idea of facing hard to track, hard to defend against, non-State, well armed, enemies to being patient.
As for public support for any policy, a significant portion of the public can't look back over our history since WWII and see that the only war we really won was the Cold War that we approached with patience and policies that didn't change based on the whims of whichever neocon had a new idea and came in with a new administration.
That lack of perspective and patience is reflected in, or is a reflection of, the majority of the population that doesn't have the patience to study and learn anything about history rather than just swallowing the little sugar coated bits someone pulls out of context and spoon feeds them to keep their preconceptions intact.

Yeah... and as another pointed out, the bible is pointing at future conflicts in that part of the world too, though Islam doesn’t seem to get much, if any attention.
Islam might itself go by the boards, even, in an intervening age of grace (are we at its dawning now?).
But the divine statement about Ishmael’s line might remain. As an earthly illustration of what happens when God’s grace is shunned and not waited for, after a sufficient burst of the elect to disrupt Islam per se, the wickedness might return. The mode of evil worship would change, maybe into something that is more insidious than Islam. Just tentative guessing here, and often I’ve either been wrong or required more iterations of guessing to get to, or closer to, a real answer.
Playing Horschach in the corner, waving hand, “oooh, oooh!”
