That doesn’t sound like him -during a debate etc...
But he did write several books and that does sound like a novelists description but I always that he was sort of ‘humble’ when it came to discussing that.
Or maybe he held his ‘tongue’ when around his peers...
There was one incident where he had an aid that had gotten a pistol from him at National Airport and the aid (former USMC) was ‘caught’ going into the Senate Office building and Webb sort of hung him out to dry.
(Now it wouldn’t surprise me if he acted behind the scenes and got him off but never did hear how the case came out but I did remark how it was untypical of a Marine to do a shipmate like that.)
