WASHINGTON (UPI) With about one month to go before he leaves office, President Barack Obama gave some exit interview-type advice to his successor Donald Trump:
Dont rely too heavily on executive orders.
In an interview with NPRs Steve Inskeep on Thursday that aired in its entirety Monday on Morning Edition, Obama said its preferable to work with Congress.
Keep in mind, though, that my strong preference has always been to legislate when I can get legislation done, Obama said from the Cabinet Room in the White House. In my first two years, I wasnt relying on executive powers, because I had big majorities in the Congress and we were able to get bills done, get bills passed. And even after we lost the majorities in Congress, I bent over backwards consistently to try to find compromise and a legislative solution to some of the big problems that weve got a classic example being immigration reform, where I held off for years in taking some of the executive actions that I ultimately took in pursuit of a bipartisan solution one that, by the way, did pass through the Senate on a bipartisan basis with our help.
In 2014, Obama signed executive orders that shielded millions living in the country illegally from deportation.
...
I think that he is entirely within his lawful power to do so, Obama said.
...
Well, its hard to assess because we know for example that Hillary [Clinton] won the popular vote by a sizable margin, he said. We know that there are a substantial number of voters out there who not only voted for me twice but currently support me who also voted for Donald Trump.

Hey Barry,
Effective January 20, Trump has a phone and he has a pen
Yours
And he has an excellent series of precedents that you established - to be used at the time and place of his choosing ( more of your phraseology)
Buh bye
President Trump will have a ‘pen and a phone’ too.
LOL
HazBeenSezWhat?
FUBO.
>>>technically, that is all Trump needs to do, cancel out all of odumbos with one executive order on the first day<<<
I was listening to Larry Kudlow on the radio two weekends ago I think. He had some establishment republican guest on who was saying you could only partially remove obamacare through reconciliation, where you need only a majority of votes in the senate. And that you would need a filibuster proof majority to repeal the whole law.
This is what Trump will be up against. My memory shows the affordable care act was passed with a simple majority in the senate. But now we need 60 votes to repeal? Republicans are their own worst enemy.
I am so sick of this as an excuse that there is no mandate. If Trump needed or wanted to win the popular vote he would have. He HAS a mandate. He won the popular vote in the states he needed to win. He won the electoral votes by a very wide margin. He HAS a mandate and he should govern as such.
Simply amazing stupidity!
Do as I say, not as I do... Obama is a seriously terrible president both in actions and words. Trump will have no need for any executive orders, the house and senate (despite all assertions otherwise) will pass every proposal he makes. To do otherwise will invite opposition and likely expulsion by the electorate from whatever office you may occupy as a legislator. Trump will dare the naysayers to say nay! And if they do, he will make sure they are either replaced or voted out of office.
Hypocrisy, thy name is Barack
When Trump is done, you will be able to write Obama’s legacy on a cocktail napkin.
The wolf lecturing the bear
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
(Breath)
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
President Trump only needs one to cancel all of yours. Nice to start with a clean slate.
Why not cancel ALL Executive orders?
What a joke.
Soetoro is a real piece of work.
