I performed it on my girlfriend's mother who was choking on a piece of steak. I watched her try to take a drink of water and it flowed out of her mouth like a overfilled drinking glass.

Her sons and daughter were frozen in their seats. She stood up and I performed the maneuver as best as I could remember it (thank you Dr. Frank Fields of Channel 4 in NY) and the obstruction shot out of her throat like champagne popper.

That's one life right saved by Dr. Heimlich.
