A former constitutional law professor criticized the Electoral College system on Friday, saying that it is a vestige of an earlier vision of how the U.S. government was going to work.
The Electoral College is a vestige, its a carryover from an earlier vision of how our federal government was going to work that put a lot of premium on states, President Obama said during an end-of-the-year press conference.

We may yet determine that in 2016 the Electoral College was our last line of defense against tyranny.

In the article he seems to imply they should be allocated by districts vs. states.
But it was what got him elected in the first place, it got him the nomination over Hillary in 2008, and I can pretty much tell you if the complete opposite happened this election (Trump Wins popular vote, but loses electoral vote), Obama would praise the electoral college, and all the people salty about it right now would be heralding it as “savior of America”
