Getting engaged is an exciting time for any couple - and many choose to share their joy with the world by publishing the announcement in local newspaper. However the loved-up men and women in the list below likely failed to realise just how comical their joined surnames would look in print - leading to some very unfortunate-sounding pairings. Reminds me of when the Yellow Pages were still relevant - there was a past-time called “head hunting”. You’d go through the pages reading the hyphenated business categories at the top of the pages. You’d see things like “Beer-Belting”.

Our friends and families laughed at the combo of our last names when we got engaged. Nothing vulgar, just silly as they are both pronounced like different vegetables-less funny on paper because the spellings don’t match the pronunciation.

Phonetically, if my paternal grandmother had hyphenated her name upon marriage it would have been French Bean.
