Princeton University suspended the season of its mens swimming and diving team after the discovery of material on its electronic mailing list that was vulgar and offensive as well as misogynistic and racist, the university said Thursday.
A final decision whether to cancel the season will be made in the next few days, John D. Cramer, a university spokesman, said in an interview.
The suspension came after an anonymous complaint made this week alerted officials to several materials that were offensive, including in electronic correspondence, the university said in a statement.
Mr. Cramer would not discuss specifics of the other materials, including their content or when they were created, but confirmed that the comments were made about members of the womens swimming and diving team.
The suspension was the third of an Ivy League team since the start of November. Last month, Columbia and Harvard each suspended the season of a team after allegations of lewd behavior surfaced.

Yeah! I am sure the football fees paid for the stadium and all that is involved in the upkeep. /s
Also....Why base a child’s participation in a sport on grades? That seems stupid to me.
After years of the left promoting vulgarity, now the left has decided that its misogynistic.
“Turn them over the Parks and Recreation if you still want the taxpayers to support your avocation.”
Did I say I wanted that?
I just pointed out that very little if any tax money goes into HS football in this town.
“Also....Why base a childs participation in a sport on grades? That seems stupid to me.”
Sports can take up a lot of time and energy that could otherwise be going into academics. If a child can’t do both, the one that has to go is sports.
That’s one thing I actually agree with. Learning is more important.
“Yeah! I am sure the football fees paid for the stadium and all that is involved in the upkeep. /s”
This isn’t Texas. If you saw the football fields around here, you wouldn’t be so sure.
“Okay. Guess I misread”
Perhaps not, I’ve been fat-fingering all week on the android. It’s nice to be back at the keyboard for a change.
“So, is the college hacking the students email accounts now?”
If those emails are on the college server. Then the answer to your question is probably in the affirmative.
“Private” email accounts do not exist on servers owned by colleges, government, corporations... etc...
In fact, there is probably a blurb at sign on advising the user of such.
“Sounds like a jock that figures that everyone should be into sports”
Nah, not-a-jock. I liked the outdoors, hiking, camping, shooting, spelunking, a bit of tennis, a bit of golf, surfing, swimming, weight lifting... stuff like that. Tragically (to my young mind), I had a nasty surfing accident which resulted in a serious compound fracture which really altered my “sports” interests all through High School. So I camped and fished etc...
“Oh, and its intramural”
The inventor of auto correct has died, may he restaurant in peace. Life is hard on the road with just an android. Fat-fingering replies sucks, actually. But today I am enjoying a keyboard then it’s back out on the road for next week too. I have learned to embrace the mistake. Especially on a site that gives no 2nd chances to make corrections.
Ivy leauges don’t need male sports.
