Cruz campaigned for Trump at the end and actively. You want to replace him in Texas you might get someone like Cornyn or worse. You might end up with a Bushite like George P. or the Texas Republican all Texas Democrats love, Speaker of the House Strauss. Cruz is still principled and he can work very well with the direction Trump is going to lead. Take him out of the Senate and you have increased McConnell, McCain, Graham and Cornyn stock. Please no.
Cruz just showed an unprincipled side that hadn’t previously seen the light of day. I agree, he is probably better than most of the alternatives. Cornyn not so much....
