A Clinton Campaign Aide’s Typo Allowed Hackers To Access John Podesta’s Email Account

A Clinton campaign aide says that a typo in a March 19 email sent to John Podesta is to blame for opening the campaign chairman’s Gmail account up to Russian cyber hackers.

The IT aide, Charles Delavan, tells The New York Times that his error — typing the word “legitimate” instead of “illegitimate” to describe a hacker’s email — continues to haunt him.

“This is a legitimate email,” Delavan wrote to Clinton campaign aide Sara Latham after she forwarded him an spear phishing email designed to look like official correspondence from Google.

“John needs to change his password immediately,” Delavan added, while also providing a link to a Google page that would have allowed Podesta to safely change his email password.

Where is the proof that they were hacked?

I thought there was intelligence testimony before a Congressional committee asserting that her server had been hacked.

I would say that unless either the sender or recipient of a given email released it, the only remaining way to get it would be a hack, unless they accidentally sent all of them to the wrong party.

I use gmail, but don’t care who reads my emails. However, if I were in a business that requires a level of confidentiality, as is John Podesta, I would use another email carrier. What is with these people who are worth a great deal of $$$, i.e., Podesta and Clinton, using unsecured email servers?

“This is a legitimate email,”

If his "typo" was saying "legitimate" instead of "illegitimate", then he made two typos or simply misunderstood the meaning of the word. If it was simply a typo, he would have typed "an legitimate" instead of "a legitimate". The fact that he preceded the word with "a" instead of "an" implies that he understood what he was writing and didn't simply make a typo.

This is fake. Proof is that if he intended to type the word “illegitimate” he would have preceeded it with “an” not “a”. More fake news.

I absolutely agree. This wasn't simply a "typo".
